2012 SKYWARN TRAINING

==== SKYWARN TRAINING 3/03/12 ======

Ever seen those shows with all the storm chasers, spotters? Want to become an official Storm Spotter, or just gain knowledge of the weather? Battle Creek Emergency Management is holding a Basic and Advanced course in Weather Spotting. Training is being conducted by Skywarn/NOAA Officials.

Each Course is roughly two to three hours in length and the time for the Advanced course is a rough estimate depending on how long the Basic Course lasts. There will be a break after the Basic for people to go out and grab a lunch.

NOTE: TO TAKE THE ADVANCED CLASS, YOU MUST TAKE THE BASIC FIRST.

HAM IN A DAY

==== HAM IN A DAY 2/25/12 ======

If you have ever wanted to be a amateur (ham) radio operator, here is your chance. Battle Creek Emergency Services in cooperation with SMERT/SAR / RACES/ and Skywarn, is sponsoring "Ham in a Day" This program has been been extremely successful in Kent County and is being introduced here for the first time.

The course, for an amateur radio Technician Class licensed will be held on Saturday February 25, 2012 at Lakeview Middle School, 300 S. 28th St., Battle Creek, MI from 8A - 4P. License testing will begin at 4:15 P and conclude no later than 6P.

To register, send an e-mail with your name, address, and age to hid22512@comcast.net. There is a $35. fee for the class which includes the exam fee and lunch. If you desire only to take the test, register and so indicate TEST ONLY in the e-mail. The fee for taking the test only is $15. and to show up at 4:15p. Payment will be required at the door to participate.

Registration is limited to 30 PARTICIPANTS, on a first come basis. You will receive confirmation via e-mail within 24 hrs. of registration.

Description
No technical knowledge or Morse code requirements are needed. This class is for anyone who would like to obtain their technician level amateur radio license. The class consists of guided study sessions with hourly breaks followed by the FCC testing session.

**This class uses memory retention.
People who have concentration issues or a learning disability may not do well in this type of class.

If available bring a legal photo ID such as a Drivers License or Passport
